Nooo not me, I will be lucky to even attend due to my love for small businesses with no conference budgets, but my friend Cutter is!
He is a great programmer and a cool dude and if you are going to WebManiacs 2008 check out his Ajax and CF8 preso. He has done this presentation at the Nashville ColdFusion User Group and it is a great presentation.
Just got an email from Ray Camden saying I was added to coldfusionbloggers.org which means I an FINALLY aggregated… which is freak’n sweet!
Oh and the ColdFusion Ninja is just be being dumb… and a play on Ray’s ColdFusion Jedi… :-)

I just got an email from Chris Dallas at Brooksource and since I have so much work that I need to hire people myself I told him I would pass this along. We are seeking a strong ColdFusion developer to work on a contract to hire (or permanent) basis for one of our clients in the Nashville, TN area. Our client is in the healthcare space and seeks a seasoned web application developer with ColdFusion experience in the development, deployment, and support of web based applications.
Technical Environment is ColdFusion on Oracle for majority of applications, but some smaller applications are housed on SQL Server.
This senior web applications developer will be responsible for architecting, designing, and developing the presentation layer for Intranet/Web based applications. The position is supporting the billing and revenue systems teams, and they will be expected to provide guidance for other teammates on ColdFusion design and development.
Qualifications Desired:
1) Bachelor’s Degree Preferred, but not required.
2) Requires six to nine years of application programming and analysis experience.
3) Excellent knowledge of applications programming and analysis procedures.
4) Excellent working knowledge of standard development languages and tools as required for various projects. Specifically Cold Fusion MX 7, JavaScript, AJAX. Oracle PL/SQL preferred. Excellent communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in the development process. Excellent project leadership skills.

I recently worked on a project that allowed users to upload images and I then needed to create different versions of the image... a 1200 x N, 430 x N, and 75x75... wait it has to be square!? Yeah that was my first thought, nah that won't work
What about stretching it?
Nope that looks like junk
What about white bars ALA Your DVD player?
Image is too small and they want the image to fill up the whole square.
hmm how about a nice sized-down-then-chopped image?
yeah that would look cool.
So how do we do it?
First we need to read the image from the upload and put it into a variable

The fun part comes next. We want to create the thumbnail and do all kinds of math to figure out how to crop. That is where the "FromX" and "FromY" variables comes in. It figures out where the upper left hand corner is then it walks its way in to 38 pixels and does a crop. This is how we now if it is portrait or landscape and where to crop it. After that we save the image and we are done!

Nice easy way to create cool looking square thumbnails.
Aaron West has just posted a nice long article about Mod_rewrite. I talk about this last month but he has gone into much more detail about some of the things you can do.
