Now see? If he would have just used IE he could have kept his record clean.

haha Andy, we know your love of IE goes beyond all boundries! :-)

Wow, thats crazy! The person who gave them detention is surely stupid.

Actually he didn’t get detention for using FF. He got detention for not listening to the teacher. He was asked two times to stop using it. Yes, IE is the suck and FF kicks butt, but come on, let’s lay blame where it belongs.

I agree with Ray. While I absolutely despise IE, with a passion, I think the underlying problem is that this student disobeyed the rules. The note doesn’t specify, but I’d guess he installed Firefox on his own, which probably violated a school rule about installing software. And then he refused to stop using it.

That is great! Especially the misspelling of the program name. I used to always mispronounce it with a dyslexic Foxfire. I’ve since trained myself however I do think it sounds better… more zest or something.
Secondly, the principal’s name is the same as my old director at HCA. I’m sending this to him - he will get a kick out of it.
That principal and teacher are going to feel soooo dumb in a couple months, years… It’ll be a clip in VH-1’s “I Love the 2000’s”. Though I do understand the core issue was the kid was being disobedient to his superior. No matter how simple the matter may be, just do what they ask… I never did that, and 17 years later I still struggle with not challenging situations if they arise. If he had an adult like chat saying “hey, i got a program i’d like you to see… it may be better in the long run for our school’s privacy…” But that doesn’t cross your mind when you are in high school, cause adults just don’t know anything and the teenagers hold all the knowledge of what’s hot, trendy, fast, and uber-cool in the world.

I know I did.

Why is the school allowing users to install programs anyhow? Most businesses lock access to admin rights… for good reason.
I bet he was on a Mac. I miss my MacBook.
