They write rap songs!
This forwarded to me by a guy who works in the music industry around here. This is 2 country writers that got bored in the studio.
I heart Nashville
DreamHost had a $7.5 mil bug in a cleanup routine the other day that went ahead and charged everyone as if it was 12/31/2008. I couldn’t imagine the stomach sinking that would go on when you realize that as a developer.
You can read about it at their blog
I just logged in to my site stats and noticed a HUGE increase in visitors today. It looks like someone “stumbled” my site on StumbleUpon and I have seen an increase in traffic of 640%!
Wow!
So I don’t know if it would actually make me vote for him, or change political party affiliations but, according to David Fekke, Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is using ColdFusion and Fusebox on his website. As a fusebox developer I think this is awesome.
It will be interesting to see that if he gets the republican nomination, which it is looking that he will unless he pulls a Howard Dean (…WHHEEEE!!!!), how well they handle the traffic and load. Since we know that ::sarcasm:: ColdFusion can’t handle load worth nothing! ::/sarcasm::
A thread was started in CF-Community about what websites are usefully implementing Web 2.0 technologies for the betterment of the UI. One that was mentioned was Netflix and the way that the UI responds to the user in a positive way.

One of the things we have to remember in UI development is that just because we can’t doesn’t mean we should. With the advent of the CFAJAX stuff in CF8 it really expands on that. I have seen a few developers use the Ajax elements just because they thought it was cool, and in the end hinder the user experience. Good uses of AJAX is when the user doesn’t even realize it. When the user experience is so transparent that the user doesn’t even know that that there is anything “magical” going on.
It’s at that time you know you have a good UI.
When you have young kids you find yourself spending your whole Christmas budget on them and forget that the parents need to buy gifts for each other. Because of that my wife and I decided this year that we would spend a total of $100 between the 2 of us which means we both got $50 to spend on the other. I am not very vocal about the things that I want so it makes it hard for my wife to figure out so this year she decided on the following:

I would always talk about how I wanted to try the Jones’ Cola Holiday pack with the crazy flavors. I was really just curious but my wife decided that it is what I needed for Christmas. She ordered the pack for $12 and had it shipped to the in-laws for a whopping $16! That’s right she paid more for shipping then the product itself. I opened 2 of them and here is my review.
1. Christmas Ham tastes like… ham… but a really bad soapy flavor. I thought they would at least try to make them good… nope they go for authenticity and it was gross.
2. Christmas Tree tastes a LITTLE better but it really tasted like a Christmas Tree smells… almost like drinking pine-sol.
At this point I could not take any more so Egg Nog and Sugar Plum remains sealed.

Next was this lovely desk nameplate with my name on it. It looks really awesome and makes me feel official in my home office :-)
Oh and since my little brother-in-laws got Nintendo DS’ I got their old Gameboy Color. I went to gamestop and picked up Metal Gear Solid and a Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons. I think that was the best gift eva!
Yep that was all I got for Christmas… you?
Guess we impressed Adobe with our turn out back in May for the Scorpio Tour with Ben Forta that they have chosen us to host a Flex event. The 615Flex usergroup is sponsoring the event and will be held over at the DealerSkins offices on Jan. 24th, 2008. To get the skinny go here:

As a matter of fact you can do something close to this using a method that Adam Tuttle created over at his blog. Instead of rehashing it here I will refer you over to his entry!

So I am about ready to replace my Dell D400 laptop. I love this laptop but it is 4 years old and needs to be replaced ASAP before it dies a death and leaves me without a work machine.
I told myself that my next laptop would be a Mac and I don’t know if I should go with a MacBook or a MacBook Pro. I have a nice 20 inch widescreen monitor that I hook my current laptop up to so I would rather have the smaller screen size on the laptop since I don’t want to lug around a beast. My only fear is that I won’t have a robust enough of a machine to run my development environment and such.
The other thing is cost. I own my own business so the difference between $1000 laptop and a $2500 laptop is a huge hit. I have the cash to get the MB now but would have to wait a few more months to get the MBP which I could do but would rather get something now :-)
So my question for my readers is… do you have a MB? is it ok? Do you regret not going with a MBP?
Comment away!
As 2008 ramps back up I should get back into the blogging swing of things. I am also ‘resoluting’ to lose about 100 lbs this year and to get out of debt… shouldn’t be too hard!
