I am an old (very old :)) Slackware user who evolved with Debian world.

I prefer Debian for any server if I have an opportunity to select. You can also use Ubuntu (which is based on Debian) for desktop & development.

But of course Adobe world is different scenario and of course having less issue on CentOS would be a good way to go for CF (If you are not capable of handle issues on your *nix box)

Oh, by the way, "apt" rulez! :)

Before RedHat was RedHat Enterprise it powered trajiklyhip.com for 5 years. I'm not sure what flavor of Linux trajikyhip is on now - as it is still hosted in a shared environ with HostMySite (don't use their shared hosting) - but I believe it's Red Hat.

I have two virtual private servers now, one that powers aaronandlindy.com on CentOS and that will power trajiklyhip.com on CentOS. Both are on different VPS providers.

I'm not a huge Linux guy (really, I'm not kidding) but CentOS seems fine to me.

wow - never even heard of centos. I've been going down the Ubuntu track for a while. But then again, I consider myself a casual linux user.

Hate to sound like there is an echo in here but Centos is my favorite distro. Like many of us that picked up Linux in the 90's Red Hat was the synonymous with Linux.

I might also throw ISPconfig into the mix as well. http://www.ispconfig.org/

CentOS is really the best Distro since it is based on RedHat. Been running it for years and works perfect.

When I ran a CF hosting company, all our servers ran CentOS. For local development, I have CF on Ubuntu.

Voting for CentOS as well. It's essentially RHEL only compiled by the community.

I have been running it for quite some time now (years) and even in the betas that I participated in, when there was an issue that I found in CentOS, it was also an issue in RHEL. So, Adobe doesn't "officially" support it, but they do look into it to see if it's an issue on RHEL.

If you are looking at a corporate situation - I would certainly recommend RHEL 5. However, CentOS 5 performs identically well. As Jim stated, you lose a bit of support since Adobe doesn't officially support CentOS.
